| Just One Failure
2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Corinthians 10:12: For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
There is just one failure we can commit. That is a failure to trust God enough to seek His will and obey it. The one failure is to get out of His will. All of our failures fall under that category. There is no failure in obeying His will. We too often measure success by our own desires and standards or those imposed upon us by others or we measure ourselves against others. God has a specific plan for others and a specific plan for you. We cannot always see what God is doing. Our one failure usually starts with a neglect of Bible study.
Philippians 1:20: According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness... Christ shall be magnified.

Some people are so concerned with what is going on here and now that they forget that the Bible has a good deal to say about God*s plan for the future. Others are like a deacon in a church where I ministered who said to me, *Now young man, we are all saved here. We don*t need sanctifying. So I wish you would preach a good sermon on prophecy.* But if Christ is your life, He keeps the whole picture before you. There is a perfect balance between the here and now and the sweet by and by.
The Apostle Paul wanted the Lord to be honored and magnified in everything that he did *that in nothing shall I be ashamed.* Do you know why people become ashamed? Because they feel guilty, or inferior, or like failures because they haven*t reached an objective. Thankfully, as a Christian, you can have a different outlook. First, realize that be you ever so beautiful, or gifted, or intelligent, someone will always come along who is better in that particular area than you are. So lift up the Lord Jesus instead. Brag on what He can do. And what about failure, those times when you*ve tried your hardest, run your fastest, studied your best, but haven*t reached your objective? Do you quit? No, you keep on, because there are no failures to the person who walks in the will of our blessed Lord. Hallelujah for that!
Small thought here. Let*s think for a moment about guilt, inferiority, and failure. If you have something on your conscience, repent of it, turn from it, then go on -- cleansed, restored, and unashamed.
